On the Night of His Celebration, My Husband Called Me “Maintenance” and Threatened to Throw Me Out

When my husband Alex left for a two-week work trip, I decided to finally clean out the storage closet. That’s when I found his old laptop from our early marriage days. Curious about old photos, I powered it on. What I discovered in a hidden folder changed everything I believed about the man I had loved for twelve years.

Alex and I met in college and married young. We built a beautiful life together: a cozy suburban home, two wonderful kids — Sophie (9) and Ethan (7) — and the kind of comfortable routine most couples dream about. Alex worked as a regional sales manager, often traveling but always coming home with gifts and stories. I trusted him completely.

While he was away, I wiped dust from the old silver laptop and plugged it in. The password was still our wedding anniversary — typical Alex. I smiled as old vacation photos loaded, memories flooding back. Then I noticed a folder labeled “Tax Documents 2017” buried deep in the drive.

Something felt off. Why hide tax files among personal photos? I clicked it open.

Inside were dozens of video files. The first one was dated just six months after our wedding. Heart pounding, I clicked play.

It was Alex. In our old apartment. With another woman. They were laughing, undressing each other, clearly intimate. The camera was set up on a tripod. He looked straight into the lens and said her name with a smile I hadn’t seen in years.

My stomach twisted. I clicked another. Then another. Different women. Different hotels and even our own bedroom. Some videos were recent — as recent as last year.

Tears streamed down my face as I sat on the cold floor surrounded by old boxes. Twelve years. Two children. Countless “I love yous” and family vacations. All built on lies.

I copied everything to a USB drive, shut the laptop, and called my sister. She came over immediately, held me while I cried, and helped me make a plan.

When Alex returned home two days later, acting normal with airport gifts for the kids, I waited until they were in bed.

“I found your old laptop,” I said calmly, sliding the USB across the kitchen table.

His face went white. He didn’t even try to deny it at first. Then the excuses poured out: “It was just stress relief,” “It didn’t mean anything,” “You were busy with the kids,” “I never loved any of them.”

Each word felt like a knife. He admitted the videos spanned our entire marriage. He had been cheating since our honeymoon.

I gave him one night to pack essentials. The next morning, I changed the locks and filed for divorce. The evidence made everything straightforward — the lawyer said it was one of the clearest cases she’d seen.

The kids are still adjusting. We told them Daddy is working on some big projects and needs his own space for now. Therapy starts next week.

Alex begged for forgiveness, promising counseling and full transparency. But some betrayals are too deep. Every “I love you” now feels poisoned. Every business trip memory is tainted.

I look at our wedding photos sometimes and wonder how I never saw the signs. But love can be beautifully blind — until the truth forces your eyes open.

Ladies, if something feels off, trust your gut. Old laptops, second phones, sudden “work trips” — sometimes curiosity saves you from years of living a lie.

I’m heartbroken, but I’m also free. And for the first time in years, I’m starting to breathe again.
