What was supposed to be a lazy Saturday home with a good book and a cup of tea turned into the day everything changed for Amy. She and her husband, Mark, had been together for six years — years she believed were full of love and trust. But a single voicemail from his best friend revealed a truth she never saw coming.
Mark had kissed her goodbye early that morning, saying he had lots of paperwork to finish at the office and might bring it — plus Indian food — home later so they could enjoy the day together. Content with curling up on the couch, Amy began to read.
A few hours in, her phone buzzed. The name Tom — Mark’s best friend and someone like family — flashed on the screen. Intrigued, Amy listened to the voicemail. Tom’s cheerful voice was talking about being late for a double date at Coachella, set for around 2 PM. There was only one problem: Mark had never mentioned any double date.
Confusion turned to suspicion. Why would Tom talk about a double date if Mark hadn’t told her? Something didn’t add up. She left her book and tea, got dressed, and headed to the outdoor restaurant Tom mentioned — a place with loud music and festival-style decor where it was easy to blend in.
From a hidden seat with a clear view of the entrance, Amy waited anxiously, cocktail in hand, hoping Mark would walk in alone. But when he appeared, he wasn’t alone. He was arm-in-arm with a stylish woman in designer clothes, the kind of sight that made her heart sink.
Mark and the woman walked straight to a table where Tom and his wife, Sasha, were already seated. The group greeted each other warmly, laughter and hugs exchanged like nothing was amiss. The voicemail had clearly been meant for Mark — and clearly wasn’t about work or a casual outing.
Instead of breaking down, Amy made a decision. She called a waiter over, voice steady and calm, and requested the most expensive champagne be served to their table. The waiter, sensing drama, nodded with a knowing smile and delivered.
While Mark and the others tried to smile through the unexpected gesture, Amy snapped a photo of them together and tagged Mark in the post on social media. The reaction was immediate — Mark’s face drained of color as he frantically searched the restaurant for her.
She ignored his calls. Instead, she asked the waiter for pen and paper, ordered another bottle of champagne, and wrote:
“To a memorable double date and our divorce — cheers!”
Then she left the restaurant without looking back.
That evening, Mark came home — not to apologize, but to pack his things. He claimed his actions were just “fun” and blamed stress at work, but Amy wasn’t willing to listen anymore. He ended up at Tom’s house, and a week later, they still hadn’t spoken. Amy knew in her heart it was time for divorce.
